Iran warns 'Charlie Hebdo' not to 'play' Muslims with its cartoons

Jan. 11 () –

The Government of Iran has warned the French satirical magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ on Wednesday not to “play” with Muslims by drawing cartoons offensive to Iran and Islam asking them to take a look at “what happened to Salman Rushdie”.

This was reported by the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hosein Salami, advising the French and the magazine’s directors to remember the fate of the writer, who lost an eye and the mobility of a hand in an attack he suffered in August in New York after criticizing the Iranian Executive, according to the Mehr agency.

“Do not play with Muslims, Salman Rushdie insulted the Koran and the holy prophet of Islam 30 years ago and hid in dangerous places,” added the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

“After many years, a young Muslim man bravely took revenge on Salman Rushdie and no one could save him. Where is he now? What situation is he in? We don’t know,” he added.

On August 13, 2022, Salman Rushdie, the author of a blasphemous book against Islam, was attacked with a knife on stage during an event in New York.

The French magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ has recently published cartoons against Iran and Islam, events that have been strongly condemned by the Iranian Executive.

In this sense, the satirical magazine has announced that this Wednesday it will publish an issue in which new caricatures of the country’s supreme leader appear, as well as criticism of the repression and violence that the country is experiencing as a result of the protests.
