Iran has shown this Sunday its support for the peace plan presented by China to end the open conflict in Ukraine, advocating “dialogue and diplomacy” and opposing “unilateral sanctions”.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has indicated that “the elements reflected in the document (presented by Beijing) are sufficient to start negotiations for a mutually agreed framework to end military activities in Ukraine,” according to a statement.
In this sense, he stressed that “unilateral measures must be put to an end”, emphasizing that “he has an absolute preference for dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes between states”, and has urged “to restore the situation of accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter”.
“Iran is also ready to contribute to the peaceful solution of the crisis, as appropriate, with the aim of ending military activities soon, as well as any arrangement that can alleviate humanitarian pain,” the letter from the ministerial portfolio continues.
Likewise, Tehran has reaffirmed its neutral position and has expressed “its respect for the nations of Ukraine and Russia”, mentioning “Iran’s long-standing relations with both countries”, and adding its “deep regret for the continuation of the conflict and the war”.
“As a country that has been the victim of war, threat and unilateral sanctions by the United States and the West, the main position of the Islamic Republic of Iran is respect for the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, including non-use of force or threat of force, territorial integrity and sovereign equality,” the Iranian authorities said.
Thus, Iran has condemned “the hegemonic mentality and Cold War-era unilateralism of the United States and some other Western countries, through domestic policies and regional agreements (for example, NATO), which has been a of the main causes of many crises in the world, including the current one in Ukraine”, he indicated.
