Latest news on the war between Ukraine and Russia
Oct. 19 () –
Iranian authorities have sent military personnel to the island of Crimea to train and advise the Russian Army on the use of drones built by Tehran in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, according to US intelligence.
Members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are in Crimea with the aim of teaching the military fighting from Russia how to use the Iranian drones that this country has provided them, the American newspaper New York Times has learned.
The aforementioned newspaper has reported that it is not clear if the Iranian trainers are piloting the drones themselves or if they are simply teaching the Russian forces how to do it.
The British newspaper ‘The Daily Mirror’ has numbered fifty Iranian security force specialists who have been deployed alongside Russia. However, a precise figure is unknown, nor if they remain present on the island.
Russia has directed dozens of Iranian-made drones against civilian targets and energy infrastructure in Ukraine since mid-September. Since Moscow received this military equipment from its ally, numerous failures have been reported, so the goal of the military trainers’ trip is to try to help operate the systems and fix the problems.
