Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani reported this Sunday that he had sent a counterproposal to recover the nuclear agreement to the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

“We have shared our proposals on substance and form so that a rapid conclusion of the Vienna negotiations can be achieved,” Bagheri Kani explained in a message posted on Twitter.

The Iranian diplomat recalled that the objective is “to repair the complex and harmful problem caused by the unilateral and illegal withdrawal of the United States” signed in 2015.

“We are working closely with our partners in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action — the official name of the agreement –, in particular with the coordinator, to give the United States another chance to show good faith and act responsibly,” the Iranian diplomat added. .

Bagheri Kani stressed that “Iran is willing to reach the end of the negotiations in a short period of time as long as the other party is willing to do the same”.

Last Tuesday, Borrell reported that a new draft had been presented to Iran and the United States to reactivate the nuclear agreement. Washington responded that it was studying the proposal and would respond to the EU as soon as possible.

Iran has announced the withdrawal of its commitments on several of the points of the 2015 nuclear agreement after the United States unilaterally left the pact in 2018, although the Iranian authorities have defended that these steps can be reversed if the United States withdraws the sanctions and returns to the agreement.
