September 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran’s representative to the UN, Amir Saed Irwani, has written a letter to the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday to inform it that it reserves the right to respond to the wave of bombings carried out by suspected members of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah in Lebanon, which left its ambassador in Beirut, Mojtaba Amini, injured, in an incident for which it has blamed Israel.
“Iran will seriously pursue the attack on its ambassador to Lebanon, who was injured, and reserves the right, under international law, to take necessary measures to respond to this heinous crime and violation of laws. This horrendous crime, which was widespread, systematic and carried out with the aim of killing and causing great suffering and serious injury to the civilian population, is considered a crime against humanity,” Irwani said.
He then condemned the “terrorist attack by the Zionist regime,” which demonstrates the “serious threat to regional and international peace and security” of Israel, which is why he calls for “addressing these illegal actions” and “ending the impunity of the Zionist authorities,” according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The diplomat has again criticised the United States and Western countries for providing international support to Israel and its “continuous terrorist acts and violations” of international law, and has held Washington responsible for Israeli activities.
“The illegal international actions carried out by the Zionist regime are terrorist in nature and are aimed at escalating tensions in the region and further threatening regional peace and security. Undoubtedly, the Israeli regime bears full responsibility for committing such heinous crimes,” Irwani insisted.
Both the Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah have claimed that the explosions of electronic devices on Tuesday and Wednesday were the work of Israel and have assured that there will be a response, although the Israeli government has not yet commented on the matter. While the first day ended with twelve dead, two of them children, and 2,800 wounded, the Lebanese Ministry of Health has counted 20 dead and 450 wounded during this day.
