Iran’s mission to the United Nations has maintained that “the spirit of resistance” in the region “will be strengthened” with the death this Thursday of the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Yahya Sinwar, in clashes with the Israeli Army in the Gaza Strip.
“When Muslims admire the martyr Sinwar standing on the battlefield, in combat uniform and in the open air, not in a hiding place, facing the enemy, the spirit of resistance will be strengthened. He will become a model for the youth and the children who will continue their path towards the liberation of Palestine,” he said.
In this sense, he has indicated through a statement published on his profile on the social network X that “as long as the occupation and aggression exist, the resistance will endure because the martyr continues to see and is a source of inspiration.”

Sinwar’s whereabouts have been a constant source of speculation, given that he has not appeared in public since the attacks more than a year ago. In February, the Israeli Army released a video from a surveillance camera located in a tunnel in Khan Younis, in which it supposedly identified Sinwar fleeing with his family. He was believed to have surrounded himself with Israeli hostages to reduce the likelihood of being killed.
Sinwar, 62, had become one of Israel’s top military targets over the past year, especially after his rise last August to the head of the organization. He then replaced Ismail Haniye, killed at the end of July in an Israeli action in Tehran that ultimately led to an attack with drones and missiles by Iran.
Considered one of the founders of the military wing of Hamas, Sinwar remained imprisoned in Israel from 1989 until 2011, when he was released in an exchange agreed to achieve the surrender of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
