The Government of Iran announced this Wednesday sanctions against British institutions and individuals “for deliberately supporting terrorism.”
“Iran’s Foreign Ministry has imposed sanctions on various British institutions and individuals for knowingly supporting terrorism and terrorist groups, promoting and instigating terrorism, violence and incitement to hatred and violation of human rights,” reads the statement. statement made published late this Wednesday.
According to the Iranian authorities, the individuals, both individuals and legal entities, who have been “‘blacklisted’ have engaged in actions leading to riots, violence and acts of terrorism against the Iranian nation” from “British soil”.
The portfolio, led by Minister Hosein Amirabdolahian, has explained that the measures have been taken within the framework of legal regulations and sanction mechanisms.
Amirabdolahian also reminded the United Kingdom of “its international obligations with regard to the fight against terrorism and respect for Human Rights”.
“London’s refusal to confront the actions of the named individuals and its movement to support and facilitate their actions is a flagrant violation of its (own) commitments,” the letter continues.
Among the institutions pointed out by Tehran, the British National Cyber Security Center, the communications headquarters of the British Government or various media outlets, including BBC Persian, stand out.
Meanwhile, among the sanctioned individuals, the UK Security Minister, Tom Tugendhat; the military commander for the Persian Gulf, Don MacKinnon; or the former chief of staff, General Mark Carleton Smith – who held the position when the head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard, Qasem Soleimani, was assassinated, the ministry recalls -.
The sanctions include a ban on the issuance of visas and entry into Iran, the seizure of goods and assets in territories under Iranian jurisdiction, and the closure of their bank accounts in its banking system.
