Iran denounces the death of a guard in a clash on the border with Afghanistan

Iran claims that Israel "cannot defend itself" and criticizes its alliances with countries in the region

June 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Iranian authorities have denounced the death of a guard in a clash on the border with Afghanistan on Tuesday and have called on the Taliban to punish those responsible and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the area.

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Naser Kanani, has conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased in the incident, which took place in the province of Sistan and Baluchistan when a group of armed people attacked a checkpoint.

Kanani has stressed that the Iranian authorities are investigating this “unfortunate incident” and has asked the Taliban to “take the necessary measures to avoid the repetition of similar incidents in the future,” according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.

Sources from the Afghan province of Nimroz quoted by the Jaama Press agency have indicated that Taliban forces entered Iranian territory after two Afghan minors were killed or wounded by shots fired by Iranian forces.

Thus, they have pointed out that the Taliban forces confronted the Iranian border guards, although Tehran has not directly pointed to the Taliban as responsible. For its part, a delegation from the fundamentalists traveled to Tehran during the day to address the situation on the border.
