Oct. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amirabdolahian has stated that his government has not sent weapons to Russia, despite the fact that in recent days the Ukrainian authorities have denounced the use of Iranian drones by Russian forces to launch indiscriminate attacks.
“We have military cooperation with Russia, but our policy in relation to the war in Ukraine is not to send weapons to the parties to the conflict,” argued the head of Iranian diplomacy, in a telephone conversation with the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell.
This same Saturday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have reported the shooting down of several Iranian drones, allegedly used by Russian forces for kamikaze purposes.
In the call, Amirabdolahian also defended Tehran’s commitment to the resumption of the 2015 nuclear agreement and accused European governments of acting with double standards in relation to the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, who died in police custody after be arrested for breaking the Islamic dress code.
“In Europe, the most violent confrontations in the face of riots can be good and acceptable, but the same thing can be seen as repression in Iran’s legal framework,” said the minister, who urged distinguishing between legitimate social demands and movements against favor of chaos, according to the Mehr agency.
The Iranian allegation comes precisely on the eve of the European Union discussing the foreseeable imposition of new sanctions. Amirabdolahian has promised in another conversation with his Portuguese counterpart that if the Twenty-Seven adopts punishments, Tehran will respond.
