Iran could finish examining US counterproposal to revive nuclear deal in September

Iran could finish examining the US response to the European Union’s final proposal to revive the nuclear deal in early September, according to Nur News, a news portal close to the Iranian presidency.

Tehran continues “carefully reviewing the US response at the expert level,” so this process “will continue at least until the end of next week,” according to this outlet, which is closely aligned with the Supreme National Security Council. from Iran, as reported by Bloomberg.

Washington responded on Wednesday to the final text proposal of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, a response that the EU sent to the participants of the nuclear agreement, in particular to the Iranian authorities for study.

“The American counterproposal is reasonable and the ball is now in Tehran. We hope it comes out,” the head of community diplomacy said earlier on the negotiations to return to the Iranian nuclear pact.

The EU sees the proposal as a final document that participants must sign or reject, after a 16-month process of talks, mainly in Vienna, to get the United States to return to the Iran nuclear deal.

The negotiations seek to restore strict limits on Iran’s nuclear activity in exchange for the United States relaxing some of its sanctions on the Persian republic’s economy, including those imposed on its oil exports.
