MADRID 24 Nov. () –
The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed this Sunday that diplomatic officials from the Islamic republic will meet next Friday the 29th in Geneva with a representation of the European ‘troika’ made up of Germany, France and the United Kingdom to discuss a “variety of bilateral issues.” , regional and international”, among them Tehran’s nuclear program.
The three European countries are Iran’s closest remaining allies since the United States abandoned the historic nuclear deal signed between Iran and the international community three years earlier in 2018. The pact allowed Iran to rejoin international markets and freed it from sanctions in exchange for clearing up doubts about the nature of its program.
With the agreement suspended after the North American withdrawal, Iran has once again enriched uranium above the levels reflected in the agreement, once again raising doubts about its peaceful intentions. Just this week, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s related nuclear agency, issued a damning resolution on the matter.
Given the prevailing tension, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, today confirmed the call for this meeting “on the basis of interaction and cooperation with other countries based on respect, wisdom and convenience.”
“In the next round of negotiations, a spectrum of regional and international issues and issues will be discussed, including the question of Palestine and Lebanon, as well as the nuclear issue,” he added in his appearance, reported by the semi-official Iranian agency Tasnim.
