MADRID Jan. 1 () –
The Government of Iran has confirmed that diplomatic representatives will meet on January 13 in Geneva with a delegation from the European ‘troika’ made up of Germany, France and the United Kingdom to talk about Tehran’s nuclear program.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, confirmed the meeting in statements to the press after the parties met on November 29 in the Swiss city, as reported by the Tasnim news agency.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, already stated at the end of December that during the month of January there would be a new meeting with the members of what is known as E3, made up of France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
The 2015 nuclear agreement allowed the lifting of economic and financial sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for Tehran clearing up doubts about its nuclear program by allowing the entry of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The unilateral withdrawal of the United States in 2018 caused Tehran to abandon part of its commitments. Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian noted in mid-November that Tehran “has not attempted and will not attempt” to develop nuclear weapons and was open to relaunching discussions with the IAEA.
