Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, defended on Monday the need to deepen bilateral cooperation relations between the Islamic Republic and Russia.
Amirabdolahian received the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Grushko, in Tehran on Monday, who also highlighted the importance of this relationship, reports the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
The person in charge of Iranian Diplomacy has also proposed Iran to host a meeting of foreign ministers of the 3+3 countries, a group that includes Russia, Iran, Turkey and the three countries of the South Caucasus.
During his trip, Grushko has addressed issues of mutual interest such as the situation in Afghanistan or Syria, as well as the prospects for the Central Asian region and the Caucasus.
They have also defended cooperation with “other independent countries to protect national interests and confront unilateral and discriminatory positions,” a veiled reference to the sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies.
