Iran asks France to avoid "interventionist statements" regarding the Persian Gulf

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Naser Kanani, asked France this Sunday to avoid “interventionist statements” regarding the Persian Gulf.

“If you are referring to the Persian Gulf, you must use its correct, historical and international name. Being thousands of kilometers from the Persian Gulf region, it is advisable to avoid interventionist statements instead of launching accusations against Iran,” Kanani published on his Twitter account. Twitter in reference to a message from the French Foreign Ministry on the social network.

The French statement speaks of the “Gulf” in reference to the “Persian Gulf” and asks the European Union for a greater presence in the region to deal with the “instability” caused by Iran in the area.

The Persian Gulf is one of the most sensitive maritime areas in the world, as it allows passage to the Strait of Hormuz, a 55-kilometer strip between Iran and Oman considered one of the main oil transport routes.
