MADRID 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, highlighted this Wednesday that bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia are “growing and moving in the right direction” during a meeting with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, in Riyadh, as far as has been moved to also address the latest events in the Middle East.
“We hope that these talks with Saudi Arabia lead to an improvement in conditions for the Palestinians in the region and for peace to come to Lebanon,” said the minister, who is touring several countries to address Israel’s offensive. against the Gaza Strip, where some 42,000 people have already died.
Araqchi has thus emphasized the importance of addressing what is happening and has attacked the “crimes that the Zionist regime is committing.” “Now there are refugees who need help,” he said, according to information from the Iranian news agency IRNA.
The Iranian politician, who in recent days has made trips to Doha, Beirut and Damascus, has previously recalled that Tehran is not seeking an open war with Israel, although he has clarified that “it is not afraid of it either.”
For its part, the Saudi Government has confirmed that both ministers have met to address “relations and try to find ways to strengthen their ties in various fields”, according to information collected by the Saudi news agency SPA.
Iran and Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations in 2016 following an attack on Saudi missions in Iran by protesters calling for a halt to the execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr and are currently indirectly at odds over the war in Yemen, where Riyadh supports the Yemeni government while Tehran does the same with the Houthi insurgency.
