Kobo, a company owned by the Japanese giant Rakuten, expands its e-book catalog with the introduction of the Kobo Clara 2E, which will be available from September 22 in exchange for 149.99 euros. For price and features, the device comes to replace the Kobo Clara HD and compete with Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite.

The Kobo Clara 2E is a e-reader with a 6-inch E Ink Carta 1200 anti-glare high-definition touchscreen, 1448 x 1072 resolution with dark mode and 300 dpi. Front lighting is provided by ComfortLight Pro, an automatic adjustment system for brightness and color warmth. Inside we find a 1 GHz processor accompanied by 16 GB of storage and a battery that ensures an autonomy of “weeks”. Its dimensions are 112.05 x 159.02 x 8.66 mm, while on the scale it marks 171 grams.

The Kobo Clara 2E not only wants to win over the public for its features, price and technical specifications. When promoting its new electronic book, the Rakuten subsidiary describes it as an “eco-conscious with the environment” device, as well as its first e-reader “made with recycled plastic and plastic recovered before it had ended up in the oceans”. Specifically, the exterior of the Kobo Clara 2E is made with more than 85% recycled plastic from bottles and CDs and DVDs. The packaging is also recycled.

Other aspects for which the Kobo Clara 2E also stands out is its resistance to water, which thanks to an IPX8 rating allows it to survive up to a depth of 2 meters for a maximum of 60 minutes. We also have support for a Bluetooth connection in case you want to listen to an audiobook instead of reading, as well as the traditional dual-band Wi-Fi and a USB-C. On the other hand, in the list of natively supported file formats, there is a list that includes EPUB, EPUB3, FlePub, PDF and MOBI, among others.

In short, the Kobo Clara 2E has very similar features to the (ad-free) Kindle Paperwhite, which it matches in price. The Kobo Clara 2E stands out for having support for Bluetooth and a 16 GB storage that doubles that available in the Kindle Paperwhite, which however wins in the size of the screen, 6.8 inches for the Amazon device and 6 inches for the new Kobo.
