Installation of 63,744 Intel Max GPUs and 21,248 Intel Xeon Max CPUs on the Aurora Supercomputer is complete



He aurora supercomputer it’s one of Intel’s most important shows of force. This technological wonder is made up of 10,624 nodes or “blades” to add nothing more and nothing less than 21,248 processors Intel Xeon Max “Sapphire Rapids” with X86 architecture and HBM memory, along with some massive 63,744 Intel MAX GPUs “Ponte Vecchio”.

Intel has announced that the installation works of all the modules or “blades” have already been finished together with the business division of HP and the US Department of Energy, and that the more than 63,700 graphics and 21,000 processors.

Along with these CPUs and GPUs, have been addedo 1,024 storage nodes with 220 TB of capacity and a total bandwidth of 31 TB/s.

As the year progresses, Intel expects Aurora to be able to be the world’s first supercomputer that can achieve theoretical peak performance of more than 2 exaflops. All this power will be used for a multitude of calculations ranging from research to develop cures for deadly diseases to the fight against climate change, through planet modeling systems or energy management.
