Instagram is about to launch its 'clone' of Twitter, a new text-based app

Lia Haberman, a marketing specialist at UCLA, posted a screenshot of what the new app’s feed will look like.

In addition, Haberman indicates that, eventually, the app could be compatible with other applications that compete with Twitter, such as Mastodon.

“Historically, we know that Meta likes to test and recreate features from other third-party apps and tools based on what they anticipate will be popular with their users.”

Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022 and recently stepped down as CEO, to appoint Linda Yaccarino in his place. Together, he indicated at the time, they would work to transform Twitter into X, the everything app. However, Haberman stated that at this rate Meta is closer to achieving that goal.

On the other hand, Tech Crunch indicated that Meta plans for high-profile figures such as actors, producers, influencers and comedians to have early access to the new app.

Users will be able to post text with images and videos, give likes, replies and connect their accounts with Instagram and Mastodon. Likewise, Meta emphasizes that there will be clear rules for the community, to ensure that interactions are safe.
