The informality rate presented a new contraction, since for the moving quarter between the months of March and May 2022 it saw a reduction of 3.1 percentage points (pps) in relation to the same period last year. With this, the proportion of workers who work informally fell from 47.8% to 44.7% at the national level.

Is same reduction, 3.1 pps, it was also the one that experienced informality in the main 13 cities and metropolitan areas (Bogotá, Medellín and Valle de Aburrá; Cali and Yumbo; Barranquilla and Soledad; Bucaramanga – Girón, Piedecuesta and Floridablanca; Manizales and Villa María, Pasto, Pereira – Dos quebradas and La Virginia; Cúcuta – Villa del Rosario, Los Patios and El Zulia, Ibagué, Montería, Cartagena, Villavicencio), with which the indicator went from 46.6% to 43.5%.
For the analysis period, at the national level, the cities that presented the highest proportion of informality were: Sincelejo (66.1%), Cucuta and its metropolitan area (65.2%) and Valledupar (63.0%), in contrast, the cities with the lowest proportion of informality were: Bogotá DC (34.3%), Manizales and its metropolitan area (39.1% ) and Medellín and its metropolitan area (41.4%).
Another point that stood out from the report was that in the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, both men and women presented the same rate of informality. In the case of women, the indicator went from 45.5% in the reference quarter in 2021 to 43.5%, an improvement of 2.0 pps, while for men informality fell from 47.4% to 43.5%, a reduction of 3.9 pps between 2021 and 2022.
Youth labor market
Dane also delivered the youth labor market report for the March-May 2022 moving quarter. According to the report, the unemployment rate of the young population, which includes people between 15 and 28 years old, stood at 19.0%, registering a decrease of 4.9 pps. compared to the quarter March – May 2021 (23.9%).

In the case of the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, the unemployment rate for the young population was 19.4%, registering a decrease of -6.8 pp compared to the March-May 2021 quarter (26.2%). Additionally, for the national total in the March – May 2022 quarter, the population of young people between 15 and 28 years old who were neither studying nor employed was 2.88 million. This represented 25.2% of people of working age for that age range.
