For the first time, India has recorded Rs 13 billion worth of defense exports, according to a senior Defense Ministry official. In a media briefing in New Delhi, Sanjay Jaju, Additional Secretary of the Department of Defense Production (DDP), said: “In 2021-22, we have recorded the highest number of defense exports.”

He added: “We have touched Rs 13,000 crores, which is almost eight times more than 4 or 5 years ago.”

Responding to questions from the media, Mr. Jaju said that India was exporting military components and platforms to various countries including the United States, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. According to him, the exported items and technology reached Rs 13,000 crore, registering an increase of 54.1% over the previous year.

Speaking to the media ahead of the first event on “Artificial Intelligence in Defense” to be opened by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday in New Delhi, the Department of Defense Production (DDP) Additional Secretary told the media that in defense exports there has been good progress.

India’s defense exports were Rs 8,434 crore in 2020-21, Rs 9,115 crore in 2019-20 and Rs 2,059 crore in 2015-16.

On Monday, two main exporters – one from the public sector and the other from the private sector – will be awarded by the Defense Ministry.

There will be products in the fields of voice and command analytics, control and communication, automation, unmanned and robotic systems, cybersecurity, logistics and supply chain management, computer and intelligence systems , surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR), human behavior analysis, intelligent surveillance system and operational data analysis.
