Indian opposition accuses Prime Minister Modi for his comments towards Muslims

April 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The main opposition party in India, the Indian National Congress, on Monday asked the Election Commission to take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he made “deeply reprehensible” comments about the Muslim community.

The group has denounced that Modi referred to Muslims as “infiltrators” during a campaign event last Sunday in the state of Rajasthan, local media report. “When they (Congress) were in power, they said that Muslims had first right over resources. They will collect all your wealth and distribute it among those who have more children. They will distribute it among the insiders,” the prime minister said. “Do you think your hard-earned money should be given to insiders? Would you accept this?” he asked.

The opposition party has asked the Electoral Commission to investigate whether the ultranationalist leader's words violate electoral laws. The leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party starts as a favorite in the elections that began last Friday, to renew the position for the second time against a fragmented opposition.
