India confirms the death of one of its citizens in Ukraine after being recruited by Russia

The Indian authorities confirmed this Tuesday the death of one of their citizens in clashes in Ukrainian territory after being recruited by the Russian Army as part of the invasion.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian country, Shri Randhir Jaiswal, has confirmed in a statement that one Indian citizen has died and another has been injured during these fighting.

Thus, he has indicated that the injured man is admitted to a hospital in Moscow, the Russian capital, where he is receiving medical treatment. “We convey our most sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased. Our Embassy in Moscow is in contact with them to give them the necessary assistance,” he said.

In this sense, he has indicated that he is also working with the Russian authorities to “repatriate the mortal remains of the deceased” to India. “We ask again that the injured person also be transferred as soon as possible,” he clarified.

In mid-2024, the Indian government asked Russia to stop recruiting Indian citizens to fight in Ukraine, considering that these measures do not comply with agreements between the two countries and their bilateral relations.
