APEDA, an agricultural export promotion agency of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has developed an outreach strategy for the promotion of agro-exports in order to reach the export target of 23.56 billion dollars for the financial year 2022-23. Within the framework of the plan, 300 events will be organized in the current year to boost exports.

Given that sanitary and phytosanitary measures used as a technical barrier to trade by countries pose a great challenge in the export of food products, especially in developed countries, APEDA plans to raise awareness among parties interested in food exports by highlighting its impact on human life through various online platforms, including social media platforms.

According to the proposed outreach strategy, it is planned to establish a strong and regular connection with exporters, farmers, agriprenures, food processors, logistics providers, foreign exchange management companies, etc., with the help of different conventional publications and electronic channels, as well as prominent social media platforms, highlighting a list of potential products have abundant export potential.

A list of potential markets will also be displayed on various social media platforms. In addition, the country and product specific requirements of India’s potential export products will be specially highlighted on the APEDA portal for exporters.

Also, the prompt update of the importing countries’ requirements will be distributed immediately to the interested parties and the benefits of India’s exports to its preferential partner countries will also be highlighted to seize more opportunities in the partner countries.

To attract more exporters, APEDA’s export procedures will be spread on various platforms, especially electronic media, and the news of its export procedure will be spread at the grassroots and village level along with its benefits.

In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to create AtmaNirbhar Bharat, the aim is to nurture potential budding farmers through practical and technical training and motivate them to choose agricultural export as an attractive career.

The agro-export promotion agency of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is also proposing to organize a program for farmers to take advantage of export opportunities in India’s various agro-climatic zones.

Stakeholders in the agricultural supply chain, such as farmers, students, officials, etc., will receive guidance on agricultural export procedures, guidelines, tax and financial incentives in the government agricultural supply chain, sanitary and phytosanitary issues in the supply chain, i.e. residues, maximum residue limits, traceability, etc.

As India has a good potential for exporting Geographical Indication (GI) products due to its health and therapeutic values, orientation programs have been planned to raise awareness among stakeholders for GI products in the Northeast region. (NER).

In India, there are more than 140 agricultural products registered with GI and out of them, 123 agricultural products are APEDA scheduled products. Considering the biodiversity of India, a series of national and international exhibitions and workshops are planned to promote the export of GI products worldwide, involving universities, organizations, NGOs, etc. as knowledge partners at national and international level.

Under the outreach strategy, it has been proposed to form an association of GI registry owners to improve coordination and bridge the gap between GI stakeholders and the government. The aim is to establish the integrity and authenticity of GI products, since there is an organization for the registration of GI products, but there is no body to verify their authenticity.

The proposed programs to be organized under the outreach strategy will focus on the challenges of the export-oriented agricultural supply chain in India, automation and mechanization of the agricultural supply chain, effective implementation of new technologies in agriculture and food processing, agricultural export policy, a district and a product, pre- and post-harvest practices on par with SPS and global GAP, logistics and infrastructure requirements for integrated management of the cold chain and measures for safe areas of residues, especially pesticide residues and toxins.

It has been proposed to make video and infographic content on the success stories of exporters and promote them on social media platforms regularly. The agro-export promotion agency has also proposed publishing motivational success stories from farmers, start-ups, exporters, etc., in different print and social media.
