India announces death of five suspected foreign terrorists after clashes in Kashmir

The Kashmir Police (India) announced this Friday the death of five suspected foreign terrorists in clashes with the country’s security forces.

“A confrontation between terrorists and joint groups of the Army and the Police has started at a specific entrance of the Kupwara Police in the Jumagund area of ​​the Kupwara district. (…) Five foreign terrorists killed in the confrontation,” it has published. Police on his Twitter account.

This is the “first major infiltration attempt” this year in Kashmir from the Kupwara sector, as reported by the Indian newspaper ‘Hindustan Times’. On June 13, two other suspected terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the border area of ​​the Kupwara district.

The Government of India has accused Pakistan on numerous occasions of supporting terrorist groups operating in Kashmir, a region in dispute between the two countries since 1947. Pakistan and India have fought over it in two of the three wars they have waged since its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1999 there was a brief but intense military confrontation between both nuclear powers and since 2003 a fragile truce has been maintained.
