Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan


The ceremony to commemorate the 77th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia was held in the courtyard of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Bandar Seri Begawan, cBrunei Darussalam, on August 17, 2022.

For the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic, hundreds of Indonesians in Brunei Darussalam enthusiastically participated in the raising of the red and white flag filling the ceremonial field.

The event was marked by a solemn flag-raising ceremony at 8 am, led by the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Dr. Sujatmiko, MA as Inspector of Ceremonies. Caj Commander Tinton Kurniawan served as the ceremony commander.

The flag-raising was carried out by the Flag-raising Troop, made up of six Indonesian middle school (SMP) and high school (SMA) students who lined up in a cohesive and orderly manner to carry out the raising correctly. It was accompanied by the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, which was sung by all the Indonesians present.

The ambassador then led a moment of silence to commemorate the spirits of the heroes who fell to achieve Indonesian independence. In addition, the ceremony ended with the reading of a prayer for the progress and prosperity of the nation and the State.

In the dialogue with the Indonesian people present at the event, the ambassador affirmed at all times that the people must maintain unity and solidarity, help each other abroad and maintain mutual harmony.

“I will never get tired of reminding the Indonesian people/communities in Brunei Darussalam that they must always comply with all applicable laws and regulations in Brunei,” said Sujatmiko.

In addition, the ambassador also conveyed the performance of the Indonesian Embassy in serving Indonesian citizens in Brunei and the increased Indonesia-Brunei Darussalam bilateral cooperation, including the activities of the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan in its involvement to help to the economic recovery of the country.

In addition, the Satyalancana Karya Satya Award for 30 years was awarded to the staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan. The Letter of Awards was also given to Indonesian citizens who have contributed to providing services to the Indonesian people living in Brunei Darussalam and participating in the Indonesian Culinary Promotion.

In addition, awards were also given for services rendered as local employees at the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan with a seniority of more than twenty years and more than ten years. And an award was given to the best performing local employee in 2022.

The celebration of Indonesian independence concluded in a lively atmosphere with an aubade (dawning) made up of 20 children between the ages of 5 and 12 dressed in colorful traditional costumes who enthusiastically sang the national and regional anthems.

The ambassador, the deputy head of the Indonesian embassy, ​​diplomats and embassy staff, as well as their families, also wore traditional clothes at the event.

The Indonesian independence celebration ended with a photo session between the ambassador and all the Indonesians who attended the commemoration ceremony of the 77th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia at the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan.
