The export of rice, fruits and vegetables to China and other markets registered a notable increase of 34.7% and 64.2%, respectively, in the first half, an official said during a meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ( MARD) held in Hanoi on July 19 to examine the market situation and launch tasks for the next quarters of this year.

The director of MARD’s Agroforestry and Fisheries Quality Assurance Department, Nguyen Nhu Tiep, predicted that fruit and vegetable export growth will continue in the second half if exporters pay attention to quality, design, packaging and traceability of origin to meet market demand.

Vietnam’s retail trade recovers

He said MARD will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in agricultural development and agro-forestry-fishery trade in China’s Guangxi and Yunnan provinces in September, on the occasion of the 20th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Guangxi. The possibility of collaborating with the Vietnam Trade Office in the Chinese city of Nanning to increase the consumption of agricultural products at the expo will also be studied.

Efforts will be made to create the Vietnam-Guangxi Association of Agroforestry-Fisheries Enterprises and the Vietnam-Yunnan Association of Agroforestry-Fisheries Enterprises. MARD will also expedite technical measures to shortly conclude a Protocol with the General Administration of Customs of China on requirements for food safety, quarantine and inspection of aquatic products imported and exported between Vietnam and China.

Agriculture and Rural Development Vice Minister Tran Thanh Nam said MARD will focus on trade promotion and market development to boost the export of key agro-forestry and aquatic products to three major markets: China, the US and Japan. .

An online forum to connect Vietnamese shrimp production, processing and export to the US will be held on July 21.
