NVIDIA has announced that the launch of its GPUs RTX 40 for laptops will be divided into two batches. The first, the high-end laptops with the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 will start shipping on February 8, while the RTX 4070 / 4060 / 4050 will be available on February 22.
This indicates that NVIDIA plans to ship all Ada Lovelace GPUs within a month, which in this case means AD103, AD104, AD106 and AD107 GPUs will be available in Q1 this year to compete with RDNA 3 from AMD.
The introduction of the same chips for desktop GPUs should come later, as NVIDIA has yet to make these plans public. At the moment we only have on the market the GeForce RTX 4070Ti, the 4080 and the 4090.
Now we are going to see what specifications we have of these new graphics cards and their launch price. The first is good news, the second not so much. Let’s go there!
Power like never before in portable equipment
The NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU for laptops incorporates an AD103 GPU with 9,728 CUDA cores. This configuration is already used by the desktop RTX 4080 card, so the performance promises to be groundbreaking for a laptop.
The RTX 4080 GPU will feature AD104 with 7,424 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6 memory. Like the RTX 4090, this model will also have a 150W TGP, although the lowest variant of this GPU will come with a 60W TGP, which is really low for a gaming graphics card.
The NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU for laptops will include a AD106 GPU with 4,608 CUDA cores and a clock frequency of up to 2.17 GHz. This card will work in a range of 35W to 115W and the same range will apply to RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 class laptops.
The RTX 4060 will feature 3,072 CUDA cores, while the RTX 4050 will debut with 2,560 cores. The latter is equipped with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory and a 96-bit memory bus.
prices go up again
According to NVIDIAlaptops with a RTX 4050 and up should cost at least $999, so they will definitely be more expensive than the previous generation. Previously, that was the starting price for systems with the RTX 3060.
Instead, the RTX 4080 and 4090 laptops will start at $1,999. So we will have to accept that the team average exceeds 2,000 euros without much problem if we want the latest in NVIDIA graphics cards.
