In what analysts have called the “rate war” in the South American country, several commercial banks have decided to cut the annual effective rate of their most used (and most expensive) product by almost half: credit cards. For some, this strategy -a pioneer in the region- will help alleviate citizens’ pockets without harming the economy. For others, it is a movement that would tarnish the efforts of the Bank of the Republic to reduce consumption to slow down prices.
