Imran Jan bets on the formation of a committee to dialogue with the Government of Pakistan

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry announces his departure from the formation

May 24. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Jan has opted this Wednesday for the formation of a dialogue committee with “anyone who is in power”, in reference to the Government of Shehbaz Sharif, and has ensured that the repression against his party, the opposition Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), will only increase its popularity.

“I am going to start this committee and I will say two things: they have to convince us that the country can function better without me or if the country can improve by holding elections in October,” Jan said at a press conference, according to reports picked up the newspaper ‘Dawn’.

The former Pakistani prime minister has also appealed to the Supreme Court judges, urging them to stick “together”. “It is your decision to save this country because Pakistan is turning into a banana republic,” he said.

In this sense, Jan has stated that the economy is collapsing and that there is no possible ‘road map’ for the country. “Pakistan is drowning,” Jan reiterated, adding that “the time for democracy to come” is inevitable.

His speech comes after the leader of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, Fawad Chaudhry, has announced that he is leaving the opposition party. “I resigned from my position in the party and separated from Imran Khan”, he said on his official Twitter profile, without specifying the reasons for his departure.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Jauaja Asif, said this Wednesday that the government is considering the possibility of banning the PTI after the violent incidents on May 9 after Jan’s arrest in the context of an alleged corruption case. .

Jan’s party appealed to the Supreme Court against the deployment of the army in several cities following protests following his arrest. The Supreme Court called Jan’s arrest illegal and ordered his release.

Jan was dismissed in October 2022 through a motion of no confidence in Parliament, approved after the Supreme Court reversed the decision of the then Prime Minister to dissolve Parliament and announce early elections after the refusal of the Presidency of the legislative body to hold the vote in the first instance. In November, he was shot after being shot during a protest against the new government.
