IFT expands a Telmex concession to bring connectivity to remote areas

In a press release, the telecommunications regulator detailed that the extension of validity will be for five years starting on February 5, 2025 and is subject to Telmex accepting new conditions that, if applicable, are established in the draft title. of concession, without specifying details.

The extended concession for commercial use will serve to provide wireless access services such as: basic residential telephony and through a public booth in a home or a booth on public roads; data transmission and internet access.

The main purpose of the concession is to cover localities that are characterized by low levels of income and a deficit in home telephone services that were far from urban centers and in areas of “high” and “very high” marginalization. This concession title has been extended by the Institute in 2016 and 2019.

The initial concession title was granted by the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (today the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation) in 2005, with a validity of 10 years, derived from the fact that Telmex was the winner of a National Public Tender.
