I finally binged ‘Squid Game’ season 2 and couldn’t disagree more with its Rotten Tomatoes rating

The last few weeks have brought the arrival of new seasons of my favorite tv shows. Last week, we got The traitors third season. This week we received Rupture second season. And during the holidays we saw the debut of Squid Game second season.

It should not be surprising that Squid Game I have a tracking fee—After all, the first season was a great success. But as with any new season, expectations were high. And although the second season has received mostly positive reviews (the rotten tomatoes Tomatometer (which measures critics’ response is a new 82 percent), audiences have given it a measly 63 percent (or 3.4 out of 5 stars) on the Popcornmeter. Sorry, all of you. but you are mistaken. Squid Game second season It’s great.

Here, three reasons why the latest version gets a five-star review from me.

1. The world expands

In a really fun way, the world of Squid Game It is expanded in the second season. We get to see quite a bit of the outside world (and the quest for the infamous island) before even entering the games. In fact, the first two episodes are dedicated entirely to this (and to the backstory of several new and old characters). For example, by following the Recruiter (aka the guy who convinces ordinary citizens to join the games), we learn about his motivations, his neuroses, and his dangerous and deadly nature.

But maybe even further The fun thing with the world expansion is how we learn about one of the games’ soldiers (aka the ones wearing pink jumpsuits and shaped black masks). In a story that seems to introduce us to a new contestant for the games, a young woman leaves her job as an amusement park mascot when she is approached by a mysterious figure. Of course, we have to think that she will participate in the games. But instead, we discover that she is about to become one of the island’s terrifying employees and a mass murderer.

These new stories keep the season fresh, without simply relying on deadly competition to fuel the drama.

2. Games are (still) great

Then we finally get to the island…and the action. Fortunately, after the initial red light and green light massacre, the games are all new. We have a group competition where the players are chained by the ankle. And, in a excellent As a new addition, there is a carousel of death where contestants have to partner with each other and race to one of the fifty colorful rooms before the thirty-second timer runs out.

The new games not only keep things interesting, but they also take away Player 456’s advantage as a returning competitor. After it becomes clear that there will be no more umbrella cookie licking, the drama and danger increases as the players (and us viewers) have no idea what is to come.

3. The turns are really fun

This season features many entertaining twists. The early reveal that the former mascot is about to be one of the pink psychopaths is a great twist. But even better is when we discover that the leader (wearing the terrifying geometric-looking mask) has secretly entered the games. Instead of keeping the twist for the end of the season (like in the initial iteration where we don’t learn that the old man was the creator of the games until the end), it’s very interesting to see the character interact with Player 456 and work to keep him alive, although he is actually the “big evil” of the series.

And after the final twist of the season that leaves us hanging, what happens next is anyone’s guess. We hope the third season arrives soon.
