In his first presentation at the UN General Assembly, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, gave a speech dedicated to resolving environmental issues in his country, as well as changing the guidelines of the “war” policies that are carried out to reduce drug use globally, which he explained has generated the opposite results, negatively impacted the Colombian jungle and the regional economies of your country. In an impassioned speech, in which he referred to the inequities of the capitalist system, as well as to the governance policies carried out by the great powers in the construction of a unipolar world, Petro called for building a more supportive and more affectionate society, with economies that grow less.
“Our embassies and consulates are workspaces to build the Colombian community abroad,” said President Petro in New York
“Do not touch the beauties of my country with your poisons,” he commented, referring to the oil and coal projects that international companies are carrying out in his country. Likewise, he declared himself against war, warlike development and capital accumulation, understanding them as reasons for the climate crisis.
And he called on countries to grow less if they really want to reduce the consumption of drugs such as cocaine, which he compared to addiction to oil and coal. He also called on Ukraine and Russia to make peace and stop their armed conflict immediately.
