Husband of Nancy Pelosi is violently assaulted

Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was brutally beaten by an assailant who broke into his San Francisco home, and doctors are treating him for injuries, according to people familiar with the matter.

Pelosi, 82, suffered blunt force injuries in the attack, according to two people with knowledge of the investigation who spoke with Associated Press on Friday on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

“The assailant is in custody and the motive for the attack is under investigation,” his office said in a statement. “Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.”

The Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives, second in line to the US presidency, was not home at the time of the morning attack.

Earlier this year, Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence charges related to a May crash in California wine country and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years probation.

Pelosi owns a San Francisco-based real estate and venture capital firm.

While the circumstances of the attack are unclear, the incident raises additional questions about the safety of members of Congress and their families, as threats to lawmakers are at an all-time high nearly two years after the violent Capitol insurrection. .

Members of Congress have received additional dollars for security in their homes, but some have pushed for more protection as people have shown up at their homes and members have received an increasing number of threatening communications.

Often at Pelosi’s side during formal events in Washington, Paul Pelosi is a wealthy investor who remains largely on the West Coast. They have five adult children and many grandchildren.
