( Spanish) – The Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS) reported this Wednesday that Otis is the second hurricane with the highest amount in compensation and the third most costly incident in this sector, in the history of Mexico.
One year after the Otis attack on the coast of Guerrero, the AMIS reported that they have registered 44,653 accidents that have cost 39,343 million Mexican pesos which, at the exchange rate, is equivalent to US$ 1.98 billion in coverage amounts for both damage to real estate, car insurance and damages in general.
According to a statement offered by AMIS, the two most costly incidents for Otis are the Covid-19 pandemic and Hurricane Wilma in 2005, which hit the coasts of the Mexican Caribbean.
The general director of AMIS, Norma Alicia Rosas, said that “the insurance industry is committed to the population affected by this type of events that directly impact them and will continue to do everything possible to collaborate with the authorities and provide support and support. to its insured immediately.”
