() – Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, as a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 193 km/h and higher gusts, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The hurricane will continue to unleash life-threatening storm surge, torrential rains and intense winds both near and far from where its center made landfall.
Milton will maintain its hurricane strength as it moves through central Florida until Thursday morning.
Milton is the fifth hurricane to make landfall in the United States this year. She joins Tier 1 Beryl, Tier 1 Debby, Tier 2 Francine, and Tier 4 Helene.
More hurricanes have made landfall in the United States this year than from 2021 to 2023 combined.
