Hurricane Beryl approaches Jamaica after leaving seven people dead in the Caribbean

The dangerous hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale of 5, is advancing on Wednesday, July 3, towards Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. It is expected to make landfall in the Caribbean island nation in the next few hours, after destroying houses and devastating agriculture on smaller islands in the eastern Caribbean. Beryl has caused the deaths of at least seven people: three in Grenada – where it destroyed almost all the infrastructure of Carriacou and Petite Martinique – three in Venezuela, and one in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Its rapid intensification and devastating effects are consequences of climate change, in particular, the warming of the oceans, experts stress.
