Hundreds of people march in Valladolid against the closure of the Bimbo factory

VALLADOLID, Oct. 5 () –

Hundreds of people walked the streets of Valladolid this Saturday, October 5, to show their rejection of the closure of the Bimbo factory in the city, which represents the closure of “an important part” of the industrial fabric of the capital of Valladolid and of this province” that would leave “more than 200 families without bread”

‘Bimbo listen, we are in the fight’ or ‘In the fight for our bread’ have been some of the slogans that have been proclaimed in unison in the streets of the capital of Pisuerga in a march that started from the Plaza de Colón for the defense of workers’ rights that took place on a cloudy morning this Saturday, and in which banners were raised with demands such as ‘No to the closure, more than 200 people without bread’ or ‘Bimbo takes our bread’.

Members of different political parties have attended the demonstration, thus, the mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, has asked Bimbo to “sit down and work, through the Anclaje Foundation, on an industrial solution for employment in the city of Valladolid for each and every one of the 200 families affected in direct and indirect positions.

Furthermore, he has expressed the “solidarity and commitment” that the City Council has to work in the search for this industrial alternative, so that these families can continue with a life project here in Valladolid.”

In this context, in response to questions from journalists, the president of the Bimbo Committee, Félix Fernández, has highlighted the “pessimism that the company transmits, since it is not making progress in the negotiations, it has only expressed the closure but has not put on the table the possibilities that there may be for other plants, relocations and compensation.

“Right now the company has declined to sit at that negotiating table, which is the Anclaje Foundation, and although they are still trying to maintain communication with them so that they sit down to negotiate,” the president added.

Likewise, he highlighted that, in view of the meetings that are going to be held this week, they are going to receive the social plan that they intend to explain, but they also want a reindustrialization plan. Thus, he explained that they want to work in Valladolid and “for that we need an industrial plan, given by the Anclaje Foundation.”

For his part, the general secretary of the CCOO of Industry of Castilla y León, Gonzalo Díez, has asserted that so far “the company has closed and does not want to talk.” Furthermore, he added that the Workers’ Commissions believe that “they are making a big mistake and that the first window they should open is to explain the possible plans that some interested groups have for the Bimbo facilities.”

The demonstration began around 11:10 a.m. in Plaza Colón, at the confluence with the Recoletos sidewalk, and has traveled along the Recoletos sidewalk, Plaza Zorrilla, Miguel Íscar Street, Plaza de España and Plaza de Madrid, where it has finalized.
