Nintendo has just shared a ton of information that shows just how well it has been doing in its traditional video game business. However, the performance has also been very good in the mobile sector, as it revealed a multimillion-dollar number of downloads of its games for these devices.

Thanks to the most recent financial report of the Japanese company, today we can know that in 6.5 years, from 2016 to October 2022, Nintendo games have generated 800 million unique downloads thanks to the great exposure it has in 164 countries and regions.

A curious fact is that this figure is equivalent to what Nintendo has sold in terms of consoles since the Famicom (1983).

A detail that you must take into account is that Nintendo does not contemplate downloads of mobile titles from Pokemon (What Pokemon UNITE, Pokémon GO, pokemon masters, Pokemon Coffee ReMixetc.), since they are managed by The Pokémon Company (made up of Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures).

Nintendo found in mobile games an opportunity for expansion

Initially, Nintendo was skeptical and even reluctant to see its IP on mobile, but in 2016 this changed with the release of Miitomo, its first title for these platforms, which unfortunately is no longer available.

Since then, the company has launched more applications, precisely 7: super mario run (2016), Fire Emblem Heroes (2017), Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp (2017), Dragalia Lost (2018), dr mario world (2019), mario kart tour (2019) and Pikmin Bloom (2021).

In case you missed it: Nintendo announced an important alliance to create more virtual reality games with its IP.

It is important to mention that from this list of games only 5 will be available, since dr mario world stopped working in October 2021 and in a few days Dragalia Lost will suffer the same fate.

“This has provided opportunities for people to come into contact with Nintendo IPs in countries and regions that our dedicated video game platforms cannot reach,” said Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo. “In the future, we hope to create opportunities for our IP to catch the attention of those people, which in turn could lead them to buy our dedicated gaming platforms.”
