Hundreds of grandmothers demonstrate in Tel Aviv against judicial reform

20 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Hundreds of grandmothers have demonstrated this Thursday in the streets of Tel Aviv to protest against the judicial reform promoted by the Government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a call organized by a pro-democracy NGO focused on the elderly.

“Many people don’t see or hear (at protests) older women who reach a certain age. We become invisible in some way,” said Anne Berkeley, the founder of the NGO, whose name is Stavtot, the Hebrew term for ‘grandmother’, has collected the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

The demonstrators, who have chanted chants with slogans such as ‘shame’ or ‘wake up’, have gathered in Tel Aviv’s Habima Square with Israeli flags and banners against the judicial reform promoted by the Government.

Israel has been the scene of massive protests for weeks against the judicial reform proposal, one that, according to its critics, grants unusual powers to the Israeli government over the judiciary.
