Hundreds arrested after a new night of pro-Palestinian protests in Amsterdam

MADRID 14 Nov. () –

Hundreds of people have been arrested in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, after a new night of unrest within the framework of protests registered a week after clashes occurred between pro-Palestinian protesters and fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team.

The Dutch security forces intervened shortly after the start of the protests in Dam Square, in an operation that has resulted in 281 arrests, most of them for having refused to obey police instructions.

The agents recalled that the protest did not have authorization and was called despite the fact that the authorities decreed an emergency in the city after the controversial match, according to information collected by the NOS television network.

The Police, who have also arrested eight people for alleged possession of blunt objects and four for uttering insults, have indicated that dozens of protesters have caused damage to buses, in line with previous days in which arson attacks against vehicles have been recorded. parked.

However, the security forces have opened an investigation into alleged police violence in the context of these arrests after images of the forceful actions of the agents have been disseminated through social networks.

These videos show several members of the Police riot unit shouting and hitting protesters with batons. “Videos are circulating on social networks in which members of the Mobile Unit are seen acting against protesters,” the Police indicated in a statement in which they confirmed that an investigation has already been opened in this regard.

Since the outbreak of violence last week in connection with the football match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv, the city remains under alert and most demonstrations are prohibited for security reasons.
