Huawei unveils the Mate XT, the world’s first triple-hinge foldable phone

Huawei’s race to occupy the highest segments of the market is taking it to unusual places. Strange. Unpopulated. Sometimes without any competition. This is how we could discover the niche it wants to occupy with the new Mate XT, a new high-end mobile phone with a peculiarity that makes it unique: it is the first foldable with a three-hinged, double-fold structure.

With a very considerable size once fully extended, the Huawei Mate XT does not use an external screen like others to facilitate its use with one hand, but instead exposes a third of its 10.2-inch OLED panel, thus being able to call on the phone or send messages without having to fully unfold it.

Despite its considerable dimensions, the display itself is extraordinarily thin, measuring just 3.6mm thick. Once folded, the device’s total thickness is 12.8mm – not too far off the Galaxy Fold6.

He chipset It doesn’t appear in the spec sheet released by Huawei, but it’s apparently a Kirin 9010, theoretically comparable to a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It’s accompanied by 16GB of RAM and (non-expandable) storage ranging from 256GB to 1TB. The battery is remarkable given the dimensions of the device, since it offers 5,600 mAh and has wireless charging.

The rear camera also seems remarkable, although that is not surprising considering that Huawei takes great care of the photographic section. Specifically, it has a 50 MP main sensor with variable aperture, an ultra-wide lens and a telephoto lens with telescopic optics with focal lengths of 13, 24 and 125 mm to provide an approximate optical zoom of 5.5x.

For now, the Huawei Mate XT will only be sold in China. Prices range from 2,1990 yuan (2,800 euros) for the 256 GB model to 23,999 yuan (3,055 euros) for the phone with 1 TB of storage.
