Huawei finds refuge in the Middle East and Latin America despite trade veto

During five years of commercial blockade, the Chinese giant has found in places like Türkiye, Dubai, Africa and Latin America itself are a refuge to place their telecommunications technological advances.

Connectivity operators in these latitudes have opted for Huawei products to weave the fifth generation of networks, one of the most complex and challenging technologies for companies in the industry as it requires intensive investments.

During the Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF) forum, Huawei had as guests different telecommunications operators who confirmed their support for the company and its developments.

The general directors of Türk Telekom, Vodafone Italia Turkcell, and Deutsche Telekom presented their experience of including use cases such as virtual assistants, entertainment and automated factories, based on 5.5G technology and Huawei Artificial Intelligence. This has allowed them to gradually monetize the new telecommunications network. And so far China is the only nation that has managed to make the fifth generation of networks profitable, thanks to the generation of new business models that are based on applications such as mobility and health.

And although there was no presence of Latin American operators at the forum, Huawei has become one of the most important technological arms for these companies. For example, América Móvil is one of the companies that has Huawei as a technological ally to develop 5G in Mexico, but also in other Latin American parts under the Claro brand.

Telefónica, Antel, AT&T TIM, Millicom (Tigo), Telecom (Bitel), Telecom Argentina, Partners Telecom (Wom), Viettel and Entel are other companies that have components from the Chinese giant to expand their telecommunications coverage.

Thanks to the efforts of the Chinese firm, the company has managed to increase its global revenue year after year. For example, the EMEA operation, that is, the one that includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, represented 20.6% of its sales at the end of 2023, while Latin America represented 5% of total turnover, according to the company’s public data.

Every year, Huawei invests more than 10% of its revenue in research and development, allowing it to show and generate new applications that can help telecommunications more easily monetize 5G.

And although the persecution of the United States does not seem to have an end, and even more so now with the arrival of Donald Trump to the White House, Huawei has understood that even with restrictions it is possible to bloom like plum trees that become sweeter after a severe winter frost. .
