We are going to explain to you how can you apply for the new rural Internet through Hispasat, which is already underway for those towns in Spain that do not have coverage. It is a satellite Internet service that seeks to be affordable for all, and that will have a cost of 35 euros per month at its smallest rate. This is a much lower cost than alternatives such as Starlink.
We are going to start this article by briefly explaining to you some things that you should know about this new Spanish satellite Internet system for when ADSL or fiber are not available. And then, we will continue with the simple process to request your hiring.
What is the Internet through Hispasat
It is an Internet connection that does not work through cable like fiber or ADSL, but directly connecting to the Hispasat satellite. Its main characteristic is that offers coverage of 100% of the Spanish territoryso that you can also use it in places where high-speed Internet does not reach.
It is, in fact, a system focused especially on rural areas, to offer an opportunity to connect to the Internet to all those populations that are somewhat more isolated or where high speed has not yet reached. It’s about a high speed connectionalbeit with a limited amount of data.
Specifically, this connection works at a speed of 100 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload, although in 2023 they intend for the speed to double to be 200 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. The bad news, as is often the case with satellite connections, is that it can have quite high latencies, albeit with a maximum of 690ms.
Another thing you should know is that there is a data limit of 150 Gigabytes per month accumulated on the rise and fall. When this amount is exceeded, you will not stop having Internet, but you will have a lower priority and a slower connection. Of course, from 1 to 6 am you will enter a “Free zone” framework, in which the data you spend will not count towards your monthly maximum.
On how to contract this type of connection, you should know that Hispasat only acts as a wholesale operator, which means that you will have to contract your connection to a retail operatorCome on, you will not contract it directly with Hispasat, but with one of the retailers that offer this service in your province.
Registration for this service is priced at 600 euros, which includes all the equipment you need to connect. The areas without connection coverage with fixed terrestrial technology with a speed of more than 50 Mbps will have a subsidy that covers the 600 euros of registration, but if the installation costs more because more than 15 meters of the pack cable is needed, for example, then you will pay the difference.
How to request your connection
To request your connection through Hispasat, you have to start the process through the web connect35.es from service. At the top of this page, click on the button Hire.
