How to fix Valorant or any game not working because it asks for TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot

This error that we are talking about is the dreaded VAN9001 that occurs when we start Valorant, the Riot Games gamewhich leads to the fact that we cannot play.

It may also be the case that you try it in another game, which is also from Riot Games and the exact same thing happens to you, something that is due to the protection software that all their games implement.

But the fault is not only with this software, since what it is mainly indicating to us is that something is not right in two parts of our computer, which were a controversial topic when Windows 11 came out and which are still creating controversy.

Let’s see what we are not referring to and how we can solve this problem.

Error VAN9001

In the overview of this error you can see it as saying “This Vanguard build requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to be enabled”.

For you to better understand what it means, the most important terms in this message are:

  • Vanguard: is Riot Games security software to prevent hacking tools.
  • dwt (Trusted Platform Module): It is a microcontroller that helps to test a device and a user.
  • secure boot: It is a UEFI level security feature to protect the operating system from any type of malicious code execution.

The functions that we have just seen (TPM and Secure Boot) must be enabled in Windows, since, on the contrary, none of the games that have Vanguard will work.

It may be that in Windows they are disabled or that we do not have a device that supports them.

Check if the computer is compatible

The normal thing is that, if we have Windows 11 and we have not done anything strange to get it, the TPM system works or at least is compatible.

In any case, it is good to know if our computer has the necessary faculties.

For secure boot (Secure Boot) you must do the following:

  • We wrote System information in Windows Search and open the window System information.
  • Click on System Summary in the left pane.
  • if we see UEFI in the column Worth next to BIOS mode and the Safe Boot State is enabled or disabled, then the device supports this feature.
  • if we see not supported next to Secure Boot State indicates that your device does not support this function.

To verify what version of TPM we have on the computer, knowing that the one we are going to need is 2.0, we can carry out a few simple steps.

To know if we have TPM, we just have to do this:

  • We write PowerShell in the search bar of the Start menu.
  • Right click on the result Windows PowerShell and we choose Execute as an administrator.
  • In Windows PowerShell we write get-tpm and then press Get in.

  • If TpmPresent returns falseUnfortunately, our motherboard does not have a TPM chip. But if in TpmPresent it puts True is that we do have it.

To verify which version we have, something that is also important, since it should be 2.0, we press the Windows+R and then write tpm.msc . The window should open Trusted Platform Module (TPM) management.

In the TPM Manufacturer Information subwindow, look for the specification versionplace where it will put which one we are running.

Enable TPM and secure boot

If we have verified that we have TPM and Secure Boot, but they are not enabled, to get games like Valorant work must be active.

For example, we can activate the TPM through the computer’s BIOS, which we can access if we are going to Settings > Update & security > Recovery > Restart now.

Then we will see a blue screen where we must go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.

By the time the computer restarts, you should already enter the BIOS/UEFI of the computer. From here, it must be indicated that, depending on the BIOS, the place where we must go to activate the TPM is different, since each interface is different.

Knowing that we can guide ourselves more or less if we go to the section Settings > Security > Trusted Computing > TPM device selection, where we activate AMD fTPM (this is usually the case on computers with an AMD processor).

Like the TPM options, where the option to secure boot will be different, although it is normal to be in the tab start. Once inside you should scroll down until you find the option secure bootwhich we must enable.

What if we don’t have secure boot or a valid TPM?

If Secure Boot is not supported or the TPM is not installed on your device, you will not be able to solve the problem and you won’t be able to play Valorant or any of the Rot Games games that are affected by these tools or reinstall Windows 10.

Vanguard’s version of Windows 11 requests TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot because computers with this version of Microsoft’s operating system should have them enabled.

Windows 11 has them enabled by default. It is part of the system requirements. However, if you used one of the methods to install Windows 11 on an older computer bypassing these requirements, then Vanguard will not start until they are met.
