How to block websites on Android

How to block websites on Android

If we want to avoid seeing ourselves or that our children can access certain websites that we do not consider appropriate, we must know how to do it on our device with the Android operating system and today we are going to explain how to achieve it.

The fact of wanting to block a web page on an Android terminal can be due to several causes, such as, for example, that this device is used by children and we do not want them to see certain content that is not suitable for them or even for us, so It is better not to be able to see them.

It may be the case that we block a series of websites because they distract us from the task we are doing at that moment, such as when we are working, a situation in which any help to maintain concentration is welcome.

To achieve this, there are several methods that we can use and thus ensure that certain websites do not interrupt us or that our children are protected. We are going to see and explain them, so that it is as easy as possible for you and you can block all the websites you need.

Browser plugins

If there is a browser that we are all going to have on our Android device, that is Google Chrome, since it comes natively pre-installed on the operating system owned by the great G.

The problem with this browser is that we don’t have a way to block websites, so we have to use others that are currently on the market and that have been direct competitors of Google’s for years.

We are talking about Mozilla Firefox, a browser that we can install from the Google Play Store and that it is one of the most used and downloaded for Android.

What we are going to need is the LeechBlock plugin and for that we must follow these simple steps that we leave you below:

  • We start Firefox on our mobile device.
  • Next, click on the menu button (three vertical buttons on the bottom right).
  • Now we search Accessories and we entered.
  • At this point we need to find LeechBlock NG in the list of recommended browser extensions that we have in front of us.
  • We press the + button that is next to the extension when we find it and then click on the button Add to make it effective in Firefox.
  • After adding it, we can find the extension in the Plugins section.
  • Within the LeechBlock NG menu, we tap on Setting and there we begin block websites which we don’t want to be accessible in our Android browser.

Block via apps

If you are not in favor of using Firefox or you want something that works a little more on a global level within the Android device, you can opt for certain applications to ensure that the websites that you do not want to see are not shown.

We are going to see two examples that will serve us perfectly to be able to make this block that we need.

Google Family Link

If we want to protect ourselves and especially our children from content that is not appropriate, we will be able to use Google Family Linkan app that will allow us block websites in chromeBesides having limited access to certain applications, being able to manage, even, adult content from Google Play,

In order to configure Google Family Link we must be clear that the child’s phone must have its own google accountthat we should have it in our google family network and that the child’s account should only be operational on a device.

The way to configure it is somewhat tedious, but following these steps should not give any problem:

  • On both devices: We downloaded the Google Family Link app for parents on the parent device and the Google Family Link app for kids and teens on the child device. They are two different applications.
  • Main device: We open the application and press Next until we can select our Google account, having to answer if said account belongs to a parent or a child. Obviously in this case we select Father.
  • Main terminal: we put the child’s Google account as the account we want to monitor.
  • Parent device: It is going to ask us at this moment for our son’s phone number. We press the Next button on this screen to display the link code.
  • Child device: We open the Family Link application. We must search for and select the child’s Google account when prompted.
  • Both terminals: then secondary device will request link code from primary device. Next, we enter the binding code of the primary device in the secondary.
  • Child device: we put our child’s google account email to verify if prompted.
  • Main terminal: press Next until the app prompts you to finish setup on the secondary device.
  • Child Terminal: now the app will request a bunch of permissions. We must give them all. At the time you request it, we must give a name to the secondary device.
  • Child device: the application will ask which applications we want the child to have access to, at which point we accept or reject the ones we want and click Next to finish the configuration.

BlockSite

This is another application that will help us to block websites, whose iinterface is really easy to understand and above all clean in terms of options, something that is appreciated.

The best thing about this app is the ability it has to get to block the web that we wantIn addition to bringing a work modefor which said website will only be out of our reach for the time in which we are working.

Blocksite can be locked by password, so that only we can enter and you can sync with desktop versionblocking websites on both devices at the same time.

There is a free and paid version which comes with more capabilities, such as not having a limited number of websites to block.

Use OpenDNS

We will be able to use OpenDNS to prevent inappropriate content from reaching our computer. To do this, we must modify the DNS servers that we use from our Internet service provider.

For that we must do the following:

  • We are going to Settingthen connectionsthen to Wifi and then we’re going to Advanced.
  • Now we go into Change DNS settings.

The DNS that we must put are 208.67.222.123 on DNS1 Y 208.67.220.123 in DNS2without forgetting to save them so that they take effect.

What we just told you Is not always that way, since many brands, due to their customization layer, modify some step or put some menu in a different way. It may even be the case that the DNS change is not present.

With everything you have just read, you will be able to block the web pages that you need and for the time that best suits you. These systems can be used for us or to protect the little ones in the house.
