Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Saturday denounced an Israeli airstrike on the western port city of Hodeida, 24 hours after a Yemeni guerrilla drone attacked Israel, which left one dead.
Yemen’s insurgent news agency Saba is reporting an “Israeli attack on several oil depots” in the city, shortly after Houthi-aligned media outlets such as Al Masira and Al Mayadin reported a series of powerful explosions in the city, with no reports of casualties yet.
Sources from the pan-Arab Al Arabiya channel have implicated around ten fighter planes not only from Israel, but also from the United States and the United Kingdom, in the air strike, but the Houthis have not confirmed this.
The Houthi attack on Tel Aviv on Friday also left a dozen wounded in what has been seen as an escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Yemeni insurgency, which has been attacking ships in the Red Sea for months as a gesture of solidarity, they say, with the Palestinian people.
According to preliminary investigations, the drone, which had been flying at low altitude for hours and arrived from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, was detected by air defence systems, but it was decided not to intercept it as it was not considered a “hostile object”. The Air Force acknowledged that this was a serious error and assumed responsibility for the incident.
