HMD has presented within the framework of the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona the Nokia G22, a smartphone designed with repairability and durability in mind, two concepts that iFixit knows very well, with whom the Finnish company has partnered to offer guides and replacement parts. The Nokia G22 will be available this spring in Europe starting at 189 euros.

The Nokia G22 not only allows the user to replace a broken screen, a charging port or a battery among other elements, but its design allows it to be done quickly. For example, HMD ensures that the process of changing the mobile battery can be completed in about 5 minutes, when in another similar device it could take about 90 minutes. The company ruled out using a removable battery in order to offer greater autonomy and fast charging. Regarding the screen, changing it will take about 20 minutes. The price of replacements depends on the part. A battery costs 24.99 euros and a screen goes up to 49.99 euros (not counting tools).

The durability of a mobile also depends on the warranty and software updates. In this sense, HMD offers a 3-year warranty, 3 years of security updates and 2 years of operating system updates. This is less than what Samsung and Google promise. In addition, it must be taken into account that the Nokia G22 comes with Android 12. On the other hand, we have Fairphone, a manufacturer that is committed to responsible consumption and sustainability and whose mobiles have received updates for many years. The Fairphone 2 available since 2015 will receive its latest update in March 2023.

HMD argues that the support they will give the Nokia G22 is correct if we take into account its price. The Fairphone 4 is priced at 579 euros and in the Samsung and Google catalog the most prominent mobiles are the premium ones. In any case, that a smartphone it is cheap and easy to repair are just two elements to take into account when purchasing a terminal. The specifications also weigh heavily in the equation and the technical sheet of the Nokia G22 is as follows:
