Few games change names after being formally announced, and even more rarely do so two years after launch. However, this will be the case with Hitman III, which from January 26 will be renamed Hitman: World of Assassination. Developer IO Interactive makes this decision to fulfill its vision of offering a constantly evolving title and making it easier for players to access this world of murder.

“In 2015, we shared our vision for World of Assassination; an ever-expanding game that would evolve over time and be the foundation for future Hitman titles,” IO Interactive says in a message to the community. “[…] Today we are pleased to announce a series of changes to the way our players, current and new, will experience, access, and purchase Hitman I, Hitman II, and Hitman III. These changes will make World of Assassination easier than ever to jump into and enjoy, and allow us to finally realize the vision we set out to achieve.”

As of January 26, 2023, the following change will take effect: Hitman III will become Hitman: World of Assassination, which will also include access to Hitman I and Hitman II through the familiar Access Pass system. Those who already own a copy of Hitman III will be upgraded to Hitman: World of Assassination for free on all platforms. In this way, IO Interactive hopes to simplify the purchasing experience for new players and eliminate the confusion with the content that exists among current ones.

Once Hitman III becomes Hitman: World of Assassination and includes Hitman I and Hitman III, new players will be able to purchase the game through the following two options.

  • Hitman: World of Assassination ($70). Includes Hitman III, Hitman I Game of the Year Access Pass, and Hitman II Standard Access Pass
  • Hitman: World of Assassination Deluxe Pack ($30): Includes Hitman III Deluxe Pack, Hitman III Seven Deadly Sins Collection, and Hitman II Expansion Access Pass

Players who own Hitman: World of Assassination on any platform will be able to purchase the Deluxe Pack content separately for $10 each. On the other hand, Hitman I and Hitman II will no longer be for sale as independent products, but whoever has bought the games will be able to continue accessing them as before. Hitman III will also disappear to become Hitman: World of Assassination.

“We are convinced that these changes will have a very positive effect for both current and new players,” says IO Interactive. “They will also make our lives much easier. For many players it means enjoying free content. For others, downloadable content will be cheaper.”
