Hideaki Itsuno is one of Capcom’s most prominent creatives, as he is the director of acclaimed franchises such as Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma. This will change very soon, as the developer confirmed that he will be leaving the company after a long career of 30 years.
Through a statement, Itsuno reported that will leave the ranks of Capcom this month. Starting in September, he will begin working on new projects in “a new environment” of which there are no details for now. “At the end of August 2024, I will be leaving Capcom after 30 years and 5 months. Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for. I hope you will continue to support Capcom games and characters.”
“Starting in September, I will begin developing a new game in a new environment. I hope to create fun and beautiful games that are as memorable, if not more so, than the ones I have created so far,” Itsuno said in his farewell message.
The creative is one of the studio’s most important veterans. His career began in 1994 with titles like Star Gladiatery Rival Schools: United by Fate. He subsequently worked on a significant number of fighting games, most recently in Devil May Cry and in both deliveries of Dragon’s Dogma.
For now, Itsuno has not revealed what his new project will be or where it will be done. For its part, Capcom has not said who will take over the creative position as director of the franchises that were in his hands.
