The Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah has promised this Wednesday to “increase the intensity and strength” of the attacks against Israel in response to the death of a commander of the group in a bombing carried out on Tuesday by the Israeli Army against southern Lebanon.
Hashem Safiedine, a senior member of the group, said during the funeral of the commander, identified as Taleb Sami Abdullah, that Hezbollah “will increase the intensity, strength, quantity and quality of its operations.” “If the enemy screams and cries about what happened in northern Palestine, let them prepare to cry and grieve,” he threatened.
Thus, he stated that Israel “is wrong” to think that killing members of the group will weaken Hezbollah’s position, as reported by the Lebanese television channel Al Manar, linked to the group. “If the enemy’s message is that he seeks to undermine our determination to back down, he must know that our response is final and inevitable,” he concluded.
In recent hours, Hezbollah has fired some 160 projectiles against Israeli territory, as confirmed by the Israeli Army, in one of the largest attacks since the start of the fighting more than eight months ago, in what has been its initial response to the death of Abdullah. The attacks have resulted in no casualties, although they have caused new fires in northern Israel.
The Israeli Army and Hezbollah – backed by Iran and which has significant political weight in Lebanon – have been engaged in a series of clashes since October 8, following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) against Israeli territory, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped.
Tensions have been rising in recent weeks and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned last week that the Israeli Army “is prepared for very powerful action” on the border with Lebanon. In response, Hezbollah’s number two, Naim Qassem, warned on Monday that an expansion of the conflict would lead to “devastation and destruction” in Israel.
